Senior Bishop Harry Mushegan
Senior Bishop Harry A. Mushegan began his ministry in Phoenix, Arizona ministering to the people in the cotton fields working side by side with them by day and then preaching to them under his Gospel Tent at night. This work became the Little Mud Church in the Valley of the Sun and still stands today. It is a thriving church in that city and a part of the Church of God organization.
God spoke to young Harry Mushegan, calling him to salvation, while he was swimming in the ocean near Los Angeles, where he was born in 1918. When the power of God moved on him that day, he would never be the same. Instead of riding his motorcycle looking for a good time (or maybe even a little trouble) he began working for the Lord by witnessing to his cycle riding friends preaching and singing on the streets of downtown LA. One night, while preaching at a tent revival, he saw his former gang of friends ride up to the tent on their cycles revving the engines, making noise and having a good time making fun of their old friend. It was not long before they began turning off their engines and one by one came in to give their hearts to God. He continued to preach revivals, while working for 10 cents an hour at Warman Steel Mill, to pay for his Gospel Tent.
He was eighteen years of age when he began his ministry. By the time he was twenty-five he had founded ten vital churches in the states of California and Arizona, and was consecrated as a Bishop in 1937. He took the churches he had founded into an organization that would help find pastors and provide help for these congregations. At the time he brought these churches into that organization he was, at the age of 25, the youngest Bishop in the Church of God.
He was Pastor of the East Los Angeles Church of God when he met and married Myrtle Paulk in Greenville, South Carolina. Bishop Mushegan took his bride to California and their long ministry began. They came back to the south and began as State Evangelist for the states of Georgia and South Carolina. They were offered churches that were having troubles and through prayer and hard work, would help each one and then be moved to another troubled church. Bishop Harry Mushegan was in the process of building a church in Daisy, Tennessee when they left for Arizona to work with another pastor to birth a new ministry.
In 1960, the Mushegan's brought their three young children back to Atlanta. The first service of the church were held on May 8, 1962 in a store front building at 2800 Piedmont Road, Atlanta, Georgia. As the church grew and needed more space Bishop Harry Mushegan bought property on Defoor Avenue in Atlanta. This work became more than just building a sanctuary, but building a congregation to worship in that sanctuary. In 1982, Bishop Harry Mushegan turned this work over to his son (Bishop H. Alan Mushegan), who in 1984, moved the congregation to Marietta, Georgia.
There have been many people healed dramatically in Bishop Harry Mushegan's ministry. He is a Prophet to many, giving them Words from the Lord and direction for their lives. He is known as a man that always shows the love of God. There has never been any doubt that Bishop Harry Mushegan is anything but an honorable husband, father and pastor. Bishop Harry Mushegan is known to all as a man who walks and talks with God
